Gearhouse South Africa (GHSA) - one of the largest and most significant technical production companies in the southern hemisphere - has purchased 72 Robe ROBIN 600 LEDWashes to add to its rental stock, which already includes a substantial amount of Robe moving lights, over 250 in total, which are a mix of ColorSpot and Wash 2500E ATs and 700E ATs and LEDWash 3●192s. They also have around 24 CitySkape 48 LED washes, 16 CitySkape Xtremes.

These are distributed amongst Gearhouse SA's three facilities - their HQ in Johannesburg and branches in Cape Town and Durban. The new LEDWash 600s are also divided similarly.

Says Stuart Andrews, Lighting Operations Manager for the Johannesburg branch, "They are fantastic products, and I have wanted to be able to offer them to our clients since  the first demo I saw, just after their launch about a year ago". The lights were supplied to GHSA by Robe's South African distributor DWR.

Stuart confirms that LED wash moving light fixtures are becoming increasingly common on specifications, and are being requested by many LDs .... so they are responding to market demand. "They are bright and versatile, and like all Robe products, proving very reliable," he confirms.

The energy efficient factor also played a part in the decision. With many clients endeavouring to make their events greener, lighting is an area where big reductions can be made in power consumption by using the right fixtures. Apart from that, there's also a considerable lower running cost advantage in using LED lighting, plus lower on-going maintenance costs. On the practical side, they are lightweight, easy to lift and put less stress on rigging requirements.

Since the LEDWash 600s were delivered, they have hardly been in the warehouse! "They have a fantastic set of features and everyone wants them," enthuses Andrews .... which is also music to the ears of any busy hire operation!

Projects on which GHSA’s LEDWash 600s have been working have included the COP17 Convention on Climate Change in Durban, lighting  the LGP  Pavilion area and fulfilling the brief for cleaner, greener light sources.

They were also used on the recent South African leg of the Kings of Leon world tour; the high profile “46664 It's No Joke” comedy extravaganza at Emperor's Palace in Johannesburg, and also for a Johnny Clegg concert at the same venue. They have all been  out on a corporate show for Castle Light at Gallagher Estates in Midrand, and  Gearhouse also dispatched a quantity to Lagos for the launch of the new Christ Embassy evangelical church  in the Nigerian capital.
